About Me
Joan was raised early on at the shores of Eastern New England where she would build sand castles, eat clam fritters, and ride the fares wheel on the boardwalk with her 5 brothers and sisters until age 6. Next she moved to a country house where she would sit on the mossy covered ground next to a pond and dream of frogs and princesses, fairies, and magic. She enjoyed playing war in the woods with her brothers, building snow forts and having snowball fights, and jumping into huge piles of crisp colorful autumn leaves.
Joan currently resides in the south. She is a mother of three, now adults, and a grandmother of 2. She lives in a household with her daughter and four cats (Lily, Luna, Malia, and Willow). She still works full time as an administrative assistant for s public school system the special education department where she works with all the specialized programs of Autism, Intellectual Disabilities, Emotional Disabilities, Multiple Disabilities, and Specialized Reading and Math.
Joan loves to be outdoors where she gardens and reads on weekends. Recently she visited Ireland where she met truly wonderful people. She hiked in Killarney Park where she climbed mossy covered damp steps to beautiful waterfalls. Ireland is truly the land of green with tales of Myths and Legends.

Kauai was the last place she has had the privilege of traveling. This is where she learned to come out of her comfort zone. She took an ATV (never been on one) up back narrow rut filled trails, a helicopter ride around the island (afraid of heights), Kayaked (never been on one before) to a remote part of the island where she then hiked in mud up to her shins, to an out of the way gorgeous waterfall. The island, a land covered in waterfalls, was full of genuinely warm kind people full of history, and folklore.

Joan has been writing for over 20 years on and off. She has been part of 12 X 12, Rate Your Story, SAVVY Authors, the Institute of Children’s Writing, and Blueprints for Writers. She has taken part in Storystorm (PiBoIdMo), ReFoReMo (Read for Research Month), March on with Mentor Text, and 50 Words. She is an active member of SCBWI (Society of Book Writers and Illustrators).
